New Technology and Equipment

Wednesday, February 6th, 2019

We at Independent Vision always try to keep up with new technology and equipment as it becomes available.
We regularly speak with the importers and manufacturers of Electronic Magnification equipment, as well as attending Exhibitions and Seminars.

Our role is to find solutions to some of the difficulties that visually impaired individuals face. Of course we can’t supply every machine, but we do pride ourselves on our ability to find the compromise between the best machine at the most efficient price.  In 2018 we attended Sight Village in Birmingham to assess the latest new technology, equipment and products.

In November 2018 we took delivery of a Clover 10″, a hand held portable magnifier similar in size to a tablet; with its own carrying case, it’s a great way to bridge the gap between portable and desk top machines.  Please contact us for further information.

January Blues?

Wednesday, January 16th, 2019

Its mid January, the weather is grey and all the festivities feel like they never happened. Spring and Summer seem so far away, so we stay tucked up in the warmth and comfort of our own homes

What better time than to look at your visual requirements?   Perhaps your eye sight has changed over the year? Do you feel that you require  alternative or perhaps additional help with your day to day reading and visual needs?

At Independent Vision we have a range of potential solutions; many of which are on our website.  From 7″ portable machines through to 24″ desktop machines and smaller reading machines to larger combination machines that both magnify and read aloud.

Touch Sensitive LED Lamp

We also have a LED Touch Desk Top Lamps that can help contribute to an easier day.  Sometimes a change of lighting can be all that is needed to improve your visual ability.  Whilst we do not rent these lamps, they are available to purchase.

Seasons Greetings from Independent Vision

Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

Well that year went quickly …

We relocated premises, upgraded our computer systems, installed new software and employed a new member of staff.

Additionally we purchased a new range of Clover 10″ handheld Electronic Magnifiers which are available to rent or purchase, as well as making available for sale some of our pre used machines.  This means that we can ensure that we provide you with a choice of equipment that is right for you.

As we head into the festive season and enter 2019 we aim to be able to continue to offer the high level of service that we are known for.

We are, of course, closed, on 24th, 25th, 26th December.

27th and 28th December the office is closed but messages will be collected at some point.

29th, 30th, 31st December and 1st January we are closed.

May we also take this opportunity to advise you of the areas that we cover:-

We generally work within a 70 mile radius of Gillingham, Dorset.  However we do accept referrals from other organisations and individuals which are further afield.   These include but are not limited to BucksVision ,   Herts Vision Loss , Sight for Surrey and Hertfordshire Adult Social Services

Seasons Greetings and Best Wishes for the New Year.

Jane and Ian

Clive of PC Helper

Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

We may be great at Electronic Magnification but we are not so great at setting up a small office network of computers.

That’s to say that Ian is a star at the hard wiring and installing but software is an added hurdle. As a result we needed help.

Enter Clive of PC Helper.

Clive came into our lives with a calm assured manner which meant that within minutes he was tapping away at a keyboard.  It seemed that he was practicing the ‘dark art’ of computer software installation. However, following lots of buzzing and whirring, the keyboard fell silent.  Clive announced that we were ready, it seemed that his work was done.

Now we have our computers.  We can all use any one of them. We all have access to the same information and the ability to work at any screen in our office.

How does this benefit our clients?  It means that if you need to call us we all have the ability to answer your query.  If you would like to make an appointment we all have access to the diary.  Because by being more efficient in the office we will provide you with a better experience, that reflects your individual needs.

And that has to be a good thing, doesn’t it?

Exciting Times Ahead

Tuesday, October 9th, 2018

On the 17th April 2018 we moved into our new premises at Kingsmead Business Park, Gillingham in Dorset.  We now offer an even larger range of Electronic Magnification Equipment.

Providing plenty of space for the new products that we are purchasing the barn is a perfect solution for us.  As with every move, we have moved the furniture around three times already, but finally found a layout that works.

Alongside our move we employed a new member of staff.  Jane Griffin joined us on 1st May and has slotted into her role.  Scamp the Dog is still with us and has settled into his new spot of comfort, situated under the radiator!

Plans for our development will be announced later this year.   Watch this space if you are based in Dorset or Somerset. We have already started work on the project and can’t wait to update you.

If you have any questions, please call us on 01747 863406 or email enquiries@independentvision.org.uk
